- How do we maintain balance:There are three main factors responsible for maintaining balance:
- Vision: Vision helps to know our position with respect to our surroundings. We use our vision to get a sense of our location and thus it helps us to maintain balance.
- Inner ear: There is a part called 'vestibular apparatus' in the inner ear. It maintains balance by sending information of our position with respect to gravity, to the brain.
- Proprioceptors: There are many such receptors in our joints, muscles and ligaments. They continuously send signals to the brain to help us know the position of our body parts with respect to each other. In this way they help us in achieving coordination.
- Our brain sends messages at the rate of 375 km/h.
- The element Seaborgium was named after Glen Theodore Seaborg (1912-1999). In 1994, it became the first element to be named in the honor of a living person.
- The strongest muscles of the body is the masseter muscle, located in the jaw.
